In case you are new to my brand or my story, I’d like to introduce you to the man who literally swept me off my feet and put me flat on my back… the rest is history…it was love at first sight…yes, my husband knows.

This is Bailey. I want to tell you about Bailey because he has been a big part of my visibility- that thing that I am building a brand and a business around. Yes. A dog.

If you have ever owned a dog of your own- you know what I’m talking about. He has been my greatest teacher. Constant challenges were far outweighed by unfounded unconditional love.

He was nicknamed the sexy beast by a friend. That he is, I’m sure you agree. He is a showstopper. He is also a camera hog.  A photo & video bomber (see below). And a lover (and thief) of whole pizzas & apple pies, filet mignon, trays of brownies, protein bars, or cellophane-wrapped anything for that matter, and of course, dirty underwear.

It is joyful and painful at the same time to share this with you. We all know they won’t last forever (who knows, maybe science will come through for us one day).  I feel sadness for the time that has passed.

Bailey won’t be here to see my brand grow its wings, or to experience my dreams and aspirations to empower women all over the world come to fruition, but the lessons, the courage, strength, AND most of all the LOVE I’ve learned from him will.

If it weren’t for Bailey, I never would’ve gotten on Facebook! I had so much resistance to getting on there and showing myself- I thought it was such a brag-fest & I wanted no part of it! ‘Who was I to talk about myself like that?’ I always thought.

It wasn’t until I started sharing photos of Bailey, and learned how much I uplifted & entertained people, that I actually came to know the power of social media- the connection, relatability, and vulnerability of sharing your personal life with people all over the world.

My husband and I adopted him in Minneapolis, MN exactly 13 years ago. Bailey has moved all over the country with us, and ironically, now right back to MN where it all started.
We weren’t exactly looking for a dog, just kinda interested. One day out on a walk, we came across a humane society pet adoption.

I spotted him. He spotted me. I crouched to get a closer look. Bailey leapt, literally pummeled me, knocking me flat on my back, as if to say  ‘Hey lady! I’m the one! I’m yours. Don’t you see me herrrrrreeee!?’

It was only a matter of time before we committed to Bailey…only because he was the only dog not taken home that day. We thought it must be meant to be. Clearly it was.

After 13 years with this enlightened [canine] master, I feel beyond rich. Grateful. Honored. Prepared for the next stage of my life. The lessons have been life-changing for me…

• don’t take yourself so seriously
• choose love- if in doubt, it’s always love not fear
• accept what you can not change, and work like hell to change the stuff you can
• Be yourself- no apologies
• don’t sweat the small stuff…cause there’s plenty of big stuff around the corner
• If in doubt, let’s play!

But, the biggest lesson I’ve learned that I most want you to know is: urgency. The importance of having it. For the past 10+ years of my life, I hadn’t any. It wasn’t a concept I valued. I hope you won’t make that mistake too.

URGENCY.  Where is yours? We think we have so much time… But do you know the truth?
Act today, as if there were no more tomorrows.
